Maissi Bench

– a minimalist design with a global identity

Made by a Danish furniture-company. Designed by a Helsinki-based studio. Inspired by Japanese minimalism. Developed for a Mexican exhibition.

Maissi – Skagerak’s newest indoor bench. Coming in September 2018. Maissi comes from an exciting new collaboration with the Helsinki-based designers Wesley Walters & Salla Luhtasela – also known as Kaksikko. Since meeting each other, the two designers have been occupied with exploring the tactile quality of natural materials through a fusion of Nordic cool and Japanese minimalism.

This thinking now adds a new dimension to Skagerak’s long and proud history of making benches.
Maissi presents itself as an asymmetric 2-person bench – with both round and edgy forms – made from light oak wood. Strongly influenced by the industrial spirit of the 1930s and 40s, the design comes from an interpretation of old stair handrails and metal bunk beds. Maissi is structurally robust with a warm, timeless and eye-pleasing impression.

With its narrow cut and minimalist expression, Maissi functions as a wonderfully versatile piece of furniture – perfect for greeting guests in the hallway or as a seat and side table in the living room.

Please take a seat.
